Throw Pillows are perfect accessories to complete any décor whether it is a residential, contract, or hospitality environment/ setting. Pillows are booming! They are very popular. More people have more pillows in their homes than ever before. Decorators and Designers love pillows. In a home décor they are generally used to decorate the living room, family room, on top of upholstered seating, the bedroom, patio, porch or the entrance. With a nice throw pillow you can draw in colors from the other side of the room, make a drab sofa eye-catching, and continue schemes and patterns throughout an entire house.
Home owners love pillows too. Lots of pillows on the bed create an aura of luxuriousness and romanticism. The same ambience can happen with floor pillows scattered on the living room or den floor. Throw pillows may be made of different kinds of materials, such as fabric/cloth, leather, etc., and may be embellished with different kinds of decoration techniques, including embroidery, appliqué work, hand-painting, etc.
Currently most pillows are made using pillow forms. Pillow forms were used only in show pillows. There are two materials that go into making pillow forms. There are two broad categories. Synthetic and Natural. Synthetic fibers consist of primarily of polyester. Natural fills include down and feathers as well as silk derivatives. A benefit using the polyester fill is that it is machine washable. This benefit is very important for people who suffer from allergies. People who are allergic to pillows are not allergic to the pillow stuffing, but to the house dust that accumulates on the pillow.
When polyester-filled pillows are machine washed, more contaminates are removed more often than with down or other natural fibers. Down pillows should be dry cleaned at least once every three years.
Polyester is not the best fiber for all pillow forms. It is perfect for throw pillows and floor pillows, where the primary concern remains the look. Polyester shouldnt be used for upholstered items such as sect cushions, not in bedroom sleep pillows. For sleeping allowances will need to be made. As a showroom pillow for the bedroom , polyester is the perfect choice.
Natural fills today cost more than synthetic fibers, but generally offer greater versatility and comfort. Down is perhaps the most widely used natural stuffing. Synthetic products, despite their increasing sophistication, still cannot match down for warmth per pound, durability, and comfort.
Like ones skin, down breathes. It reduces excess heat and moisture, so your pillow does not become clammy as you sleep on it. For show pillows,, down cannot compete with synthetic fibers shape retention. On the other hand synthetics cannot hold a candle to downs dominance for sleeping pillow forms. In addition to its costs, down does require greater care than synthetic fibers. It is important to regularly dry clean down pillows.
Soft, natural fibers offer the best covering for down pillow forms. Be sure that the material is tightly woven to prevent the down from sneaking through the pillow. Another natural fill is kapok. These fills are silky. Kapok comes from the pods of the ceiba tree, which grows in porous, volcanic soil in countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Ecuador, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka. It is used as stuffing in mattresses, pillows, upholstery, life-saving equipment and insulation.
The negative aspect is unless chemically treated, it is highly flammable. It certainly makes for an interesting throw pillow and upholstery fill though.
